From “Rabbit” to Macca: A Rescue Story That Changed Everything
Every year, National Dog Adoption Day reminds us why we do what we do—not just as a business, but as dog lovers, community members, and advocates for animals who deserve a second chance.
This year, that reminder came in the form of a sweet pup named Rabbit, now known as Macca.

A Community Event That Turned Into Something Bigger
We were out at Paws for a Cause at Sarasota Polo Grounds, one of the many local events we love participating in across Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, and Manatee County. This particular event benefited Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, bringing the community together for an incredible cause.
As a small, family-owned business, community involvement is at the heart of everything we do at DoodyCalls. These events aren’t just about showing up—they’re about connecting, supporting great organizations, and being part of something bigger than ourselves.
Manatee County Animal Welfare was there that day with adoptable dogs, and that is where everything changed.
That is where I met him.
Macca.
Wearing his bright yellow “Adopt Me” bandana, sitting there like he knew exactly what he was doing, waiting for the right family.
When You Just Know
From the moment I saw him, I knew he would be the perfect fit for my brother’s family.
Convincing him took a little teamwork, but with the help of his wife, we made it happen. Before long, we were heading to meet Macca together.
The Test That Meant Everything
We brought along Colton and Kirsti’s one-year-old son, Myko, because toddlers are the ultimate test.
Loud, unpredictable, and full of energy.
Macca was calm, gentle, and completely unbothered. He handled it all with ease. It was clear he had the temperament and patience to fit right into their home.
The Real Test: Meeting His New Sisters
Next came the biggest moment, bringing Macca home for a trial run to meet his new sisters, Layla and Maya.
Both are rescues and longtime members of the family. While Maya is easygoing, Layla can sometimes take time adjusting to new dogs, so this introduction was important.

A Bond We Didn’t Expect
Not only did it go well, it exceeded every expectation.
Layla and Macca quickly became best friends.
Even more meaningful, Macca brought out a playful, youthful side of Layla that the family had not seen in years.
That is the impact adoption can have. It does not just change one dog’s life, it transforms the entire home.
Making Adoption Easier: Our Free Month of Service
We know bringing home a new dog is exciting, but it can also come with a lot of adjustment.
New routines, new energy, and new responsibilities.
At DoodyCalls on the Suncoast, we want to support families during that transition. That is why we offer a free month of poop scooping service for newly adopted dogs.
It is our way of helping lighten the load so families can focus on what matters most, building a bond with their new dog and helping them settle into their forever home.
