Dog Resource Guide

Humane Societies and Animal Shelters

• PAWS of Rutherford County is located at 285 John Rice Blvd., Murfreesboro, TN. They work with the community to make it a safer place for people and animals of all types.  They have a wonderful staff who love the animals and find the best home for each one.
• Rock N Acres Animal Rescue and Pet Adoptions is a no-kill rescue that fosters animals until they find loving homes.  You can contact them at Contact@Rnapetrescue.com for more information about the animals or to become a foster home.
• On The Fifth Day Animal Sanctuary rescues homeless and abused animals. They are in the process of building a facility in Murfreesboro. Until then, the animals are kept at foster homes in the area.
• Almost Home Animal Rescue is a Middle Tennessee rescue for large-breed dogs and horses. They use a variety of foster homes to prepare the animals for their transition to permanent homes. They hold a variety of events throughout the year for adopting and raising funds for the animals.

Rutherford County Dog Park

• Murfreesboro Bark Park is located at 1540 W. College St. Murfreesboro, TN. The park is open from daylight to ½ hour before dark. Please read the rules and regulations before visiting the park. Special events are held at the park each year including Barkaroo, Middle Tennesse’s Dog Festival in November.

Rabies and Vaccination Clinics

• Rutherford County rabies and vaccination clinics are held each year for $10. There are a variety of locations available.

Rutherford County Dog Events

• Barkaroo is held in the fall at Murfreesboro Bark Park. There is a dog walk, Mr. and Mrs. Barkaroo Contest, Frisbee contest, best dressed and dog/owner look-a-like contests, as well as a variety of vendors at the Mutt Market.
• Puppy Plunge helps dogs cool off. Sports*Com hosts the annual event after the pool has closed for the season. The event costs $3 per family and each dog will receive a special treat! The hours are from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.
