- Hampton Roads Rescue Organizations – This site offers a comprehensive list of rescue organizations compiled by the Tidewater Kennel Club.
- Animal Assistance League of Virginia – The Animal Assistance League is a non-profit shelter that places a variety of pets for adoption. The shelter is located at 1149 New Mill Dr., Chesapeake, VA 23322.
- Animal Rescue of Tidewater – This group is a rescue organization working to help homeless animals throughout the region.
- K-9 New Life Center – An all-breed rescue organization located in Virginia Beach, but serving the Hampton Roads area. Visit their website to obtain schedules for their visits to local area Petsmarts.
- Hope For Life Rescue, Inc. – A rescue organization that is dedicated to the rescue of abandoned, abused and left behind street animals. This unique organization does not have set adoption fees and has been established since 2002. Follow this link to read more.
Waterways
- HR Storm - Scoop the Poop – HR Storm is a waste management education program dedicated to teaching best practices of controlling waste in storm water runoff. The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, a coalition of local government staff members, created HR Storm in an effort to better educate the public about the affects of pet waste and other pollutants on our area waters.
- Keeping Virginia Beach Waters Clean – Pet waste accounts for nearly one-third of bacteria found in our waterways. This site has recommendations for dealing with run-off and how we can work to keep the water cleaner.
- Virginia Beach: Pet Waste Disposal – Virginia Beach points out some of the affects that pet waste has on local waterways and how you can help.
- The Elizabeth River Project – The Elizabeth River Project is a grass-roots organization dedicated to cleaning up the Elizabeth River which flows through a number of Hampton Roads cities, including: Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Chesapeake. In addition to tackling the problems caused by big polluters, the “Project” offers tips for keeping a clean Elizabeth and Lafayette River as well as other area waterways.
- Lynnhaven River Now – Lynnhaven River Now is another grass-roots organization that focuses on the the Lynnhaven River watershed in the Virginia Beach area.
