Local Laws and Ordinances that Affect Dog Owners
- City of Newton, Massachusetts Dog-Related Regulations - The City of Newton pooper scooper code states that the disposal of dog poop is the duty of the dog’s owner. If a dog and its owner are seen in a public area or a private area unoccupied by the dog owner, without a means of removing the dog waste, they will be subject to a fine of $25.00 for the first offense.
- Dog Licensing - All dogs in the City of Newton must be licensed each year. This site explains the process for obtaining a dog license. You can download a dog license application directly. Each March, the City of Newton sends out a renewal application for all dog owners.
- Dog Leash Restrictions - All dogs in the City of Newton must be constrained by use of a leash in all public places and streets of Newton. This law is being reconsidered, however, and this site contains more information regarding the pending amendment regarding off-leash policies.
