Pet Rescue Groups and Dog-Related Business Friends
Rescue Organizations We Work With and Support
- Our Companions Domestic Animal Sanctuary is dedicated to the No-Kill philosophy. They have created programs, policies, and relationships to end the unnecessary euthanasia of pets in Connecticut for reasons such as age, sickness, disability, breed and behavior. Read the updates on the sanctuary they are building and check out the animals available for adoption.
- The CT Humane Society, headquartered in Newington, promotes animal welfare and adoption. They also have a variety of volunteer opportunities and resources to learn about pet care.
- Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue fosters and places Golden Retrievers and Golden Mixes with families in Connecticut and across the northeast.
- Labs4Rescue fosters and finds homes for rescued and displaced Labrador Retrievers and retriever mixes. We got our great chocolate lab, Jackson, through this group.
- Assistance Dogs Unlimited trains and places service dogs with people who have physical challenges. They are headquartered in Rocky Hill, CT.
- Walk for Chance is a community service and education project of The First Town 4-H Club of Windsor, CT. Through this project, the group funds the rescue, training, and placement of service dogs, as well as provides support to animal rescue and development of a dog park.
- KADO Pet Foundation places pets with people who have low incomes that are also disabled, seniors, or veterans. The foundation provides lifelong care and assistance for these pets as well as for pets of qualified clients who are having difficulty caring for them.
Daycare and Boarding Facilities
- Planet Bark is located in West Hartford and provides luxury daycare for your dog so you don’t have to worry while you’re at work. After a day of play, your dog can stay overnight in their own individual room with a comfy sleeping mat or futon to sleep on.
- Canine Clubhouse, located in Farmington, offers daycare for your dog with amenities including matted floors, a swimming pool, and professional bathing.
- Avon Best Friends Pet Care provides a variety of services including grooming, boarding, and daycare.
- My Dog’s Daycare in Avon offers a small, friendly, owner-run facility for doggie daycare and boarding. They also offer grooming by Dan.
Dog Walking and Pet Sitting
- Dog Days of West Hartford offers professional dog walking and pet sitting services in West Hartford and contiguous towns. Dog Days specializes in playgroups for small dogs and offers free pickup and delivery. They also offer online service scheduling for your convenience.
- Critter Sitters of Newington offers daily pet sitting and dog walks as well as overnight pet sitting.
- Creature Comforts of Bristol provides professional pet sitting services for a wide variety of animals.
Training
- Teacher’s Pet trainer Stoddard Lane-Reticker teaches private, in-home training for manners, reliable obedience, and behavior problems in Avon, Canton, Farmington, Simsbury, West Hartford and surrounding areas.
- The K-9 Classroom offers obedience training and education for puppies and dogs. Their certified trainer, Melissa, offers classes at the Planet Bark facility in West Hartford, as well as individual consultations.
- Secret Lake Dog Training is located in West Simsbury and specializes in training dogs for families in the Farmington Valley. Karen provides a variety of classes from puppy class to AKC Good Citizen training. Her website also offers numerous resources to help people learn more about their pets and be better owners.
Pet Containment
- Pet Stop of CT installs a pet containment system to meet your needs then carefully trains your dog to stay safely in the yard. Pet Stop will also service all brands of pet fences.
Photography and Art
- Working with pets takes special skill, and Ira Nozik Photographers is nationally renowned for their pet photography. They will come to your location to create a lasting memory of your pets and/or your family.
- Combining a love of dogs and a love of art, Luella’s Dog Art creates a unique painting using a photo of your dog and your design requests as inspiration.
