Sara’s winning recipe came from her family cookbook. These Reindeer Sugar Cookies brought in a win for the best looking cookies this year.
Homemade Reindeer Sugar Cookies
2 ¾ Cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 ¼ cups margarine
2 cups white sugar
2 farm fresh eggs
1 bag small pretzel twists
1 container red cinnamon candies
1 container of frosting – piped into a bag
Preheat oven 350 degrees F. In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda and salt, Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the margarine and 2 cups sugar until light & fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until just blended. Roll the dough into walnut size balls and roll the balls in remaining ¼ cups of sugar. Place cookies 2 in apart onto ungreased cookie sheet and using your thumb and forefinger, pinch opposite sides of each ball about two-thirds of the way down to shape face.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until lightly browned at the edges. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Before cookies cool completely dip tops of cookies in sugar and add pretzels for antlers and 1 red cinnamon candy for nose. Add frosting for eye’s when cookies completely cool.
